Home Style Dressing for that occasion

Dressing for that occasion

Good knowledge of what to wear for any particular occasion is imperative in fashion.  It is of immense importance to have a good knowledge of how to dress for a particular occasion because it creates or make a very good impression of one when the principles of understanding what to wear and when to wear them are applied but always these principles are being relegated.
Often times, people tend to wrongly judge a book by its cover and we all do it, its human nature. People do assess attributes of a person mostly on appearance; her fashion sense comes in first before the knowledge she possesses or who she really is.
For instance, ordinarily, one would think that someone being interviewed on television would at least dress professionally, that is the norm and that is what it requires but unfortunately, not everyone knows this.
To explain more on this, during a television programme I watched recently, two women were invited for an interview, one the chief economist of a business group and the other a newspaper journalist who reports on business.
The chief economist was dressed in a business suit and her hair was neatly combed. She sat up straight and looked at either the host or camera when answering questions. The journalist, on the other hand, by clear contrast, was dressed casually in jeans trouser and shirt. Her hair looked unkempt. She slouched in her chair and looked at her lap a lot of the time.
Both women were very knowledgeable and had a lot of useful information to convey to the audience. However, I personally, had more faith in what the economist had to say than I did in what the reporter had. Why? The way they carried themselves; anyone else could have judged them the same way I did, it is natural!
The knowledge of what goes on and when in fashion is paramount. While the person in the jeans may be as competent and as intelligent as the one wearing the formal suit, but we do assess or favour people based on appearance consciously or unknowingly.
That’s not to say that putting on nice suit or looking very grooming  says it all ,  No  all the ingredients — knowledge, preparation, and appearance are necessary to make a good impression.
A fashionista who understands and applies these principles, is said to have an edge in style, because different occasions call for different styles and different designs while anything contrary to this leads to fashion flaws hence disapproval from people around. In a work place, it could appear unprofessional.
Here are little tips on what to wear for some occasions
For a business purposes,
Your goal to getting dressed for work is to project a professional, competent image, regardless of your employment level or career path.
Therefore, the styles, colours, lengths and fit of your fashion choices will speak volumes about your ability to do your job. If you are concerned about your career, you’ll be more concerned with looking professional than looking cute or trendy.
For business or workplace dressing, you would want to wear something formal and equally appealing, if you intend to a wear a sleeveless dress, compliment it with a good jacket, because you would not be showing too much flesh in the office and also avoid multiple coloured dress, it could be reserved for church activities not work.
Shirt tops or dresses with a collar and belts also give you an enhanced professional appeal. You can club them up with trousers or other articles of women clothing such as knee length skirts, jackets, blouse and most importantly good shoes, please reserved long skirt for another occasion not work.
Try and look professional best and make sure your hair and makeup are neatly done, in other words, dress for success in your work place while on Casual Friday – Depending on the business, it can be anything from corporate casual instead of formal looks or crazy traditional clothes (African print) .
Try to avoid too sexy, too casual and too sloppy wears to work because they do not portray any professional image.
For Party/ evening wear
Cocktail dresses are the best for ladies night party or nightclubs. These dresses are usually short and come in a myriad of colour options to blend with your moods. Here brighter colours are encouraged, if you can wear bling go for it, it is all about enjoyment and freedom to express yourself.
Night party dresses can come as halters neck sleeveless, sleeveless gown and with spaghetti sleeves just to give you that flirtier evening look.
While for the daytime party, you could have a touch of local fabrics (african print)  design. This could be used to sew long or short gowns, skirts and blouses depending on your choice, but the key thing here is make to fit with a touch of sexy hence do not forget to flaunt that good parts/shape  of your body after all is party.
You can also wear a little black dress. The little black dress is one dress, which every woman’s wardrobe must have. It has come of age along the times and still a choice with women. Typically short with enhanced sleeves, these go well with all sorts of occasions.
If you wish to go for long dresses, you can go for long floral dresses or even maxi dresses but which is unique and which flatters your asset.
For beach wear/ playtime
Playtime calls for lighter and casual dresses to blend well with the place of interest. Beach wears  are the best option for such events. They are multi-coloured with flower patterns, which boost your cheerful nature further. These dresses are usually sleeveless accompanied with a strap or two to layoff the high temperatures and made of light material to keep you comfortable.
These dresses do not require many accessories- a light hat or a ribbon will go along well enough to keep your designer aspirations satisfied making them the ideal dresses for beach. You can also wear leggings with them making them perfect under women tops.
Avoid swimming trunks if you are heavier because it only exposes your upper body which you should have concealed.
For traditional weddings/outings
This is where you express yourself as you deem fit, always go for traditional attire, sew to fit, accessorize with beads, bracelet and even gold necklaces. Do not forget to match your shoes with your bag or beads or your gele with your bag, shoes and or necklace as the case may be. Do not forget when sewing traditional clothes to accentuate your good qualities while stylishly conceal the flaw features of your body.
In as much as this is where you can express yourself as desired, attention should be paid so that you will not over do it, because too much of a style in one piece of fabric leads to fashion  chaos. Whereas too big gele or too big beads will make you look like a masquerade.
So, go out there to make an impression through your appearance by knowing what to wear and when to wear them. You are a fashionista of a kind! Rock it!
