COSON: Mba, DG, NBC bags Copyright Medal of Honour

The Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), the nation’s sole collective management organisation for musical works and sound recordings has decorated the Director General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Emeka Mba, in Lagos.
He was decorated with the Copyright Medal of Honour. The decoration took place at the 5th Anniversary Celebration of COSON.
Chairman COSON, Mr. Tony Okoroji, in his address said Mr. Mba was unanimously chosen by the COSON Board because of the historic role played by him and the Commission in resolving the over four decades of raging dispute between the music and broadcasting industries in Nigeria over the payment of music copyright royalties.
According to the Director/Head of Public Affairs at NBC, Mr. Awwalu Salihu, he noted that the Copyright Medal of Honour is the highest recognition of the music industry for any individual in acknowledgement of that person’s significant contribution to the promotion and defence of the rights of creative people in Nigeria.
Others honoured include Miliki King, Evangelist (Dr) Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi, one time Chairman of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and also Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Recording Industries (NARI).The name of the multiple music award winner, 2 Face Idibia, will also be entered into the Roll of Honour.Also on the list of those to be honoured is Sasakosa exponent, Prof (Sir) Victor Uwaifo.
