The history of Valentine’s Day is obscure, and further clouded by various fanciful legends. The holiday’s roots are in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration commemorated annually on February 15. Pope Gelasius I recast this pagan festival as a Christian feast day circa 496, declaring February 14 to be St. Valentine’s Day.

Prophet  Collins Timothy, the Founder/General Overseer of the Olive Mountain of Prayer & Praise Ministry, Ijegun-Ikotun, Lagos in this interview with Asst News Editor, INNOCENT OKONKWO speaks on what 2015 holds for the citizens.

What have you to say about our country Nigeria in this New Year?
Right from 2008, the Lord almighty has been making a name for himself. I cannot say that it is by my power or the power of any man that these wonders are being performed; God himself is the one doing these things and bringing about revelations and prophecies about this country each year.

As the nation warms up for the 2015 General Elections, Methodists across the country will be gathering in Sagamu , Ogun State this week to pray for a peaceful and rancor-free elections and other areas of country’s national life. This is contained in a release made available to Daily Champion by the Church’s Media and Public Relations Officer, Rev. Oladapo Daramola.

Some bishops of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) have lauded the Diocese of Ijebu South/West for its developmental stride in the past five years.
The bishops also commended the bishop of the diocese, Rt. Rev.  Babatunde Ogunbanwo for his visionary leadership which has facilitated growth and development in the diocese.

Pope Francis is firmly upholding church teaching banning contraception, but said that Catholics do not have to breed “like rabbits” and should instead practise “responsible parenting”.
Speaking to reporters en route home from the Philippines, Francis said there are plenty of church-approved ways to regulate births. But he said most importantly, no outside institution should impose its views on regulating family size, blasting what he called the “ideological colonisation” of the developing world.

The General Overseer of Crown of Life Bible Church, Abuja phase II Jalingo, Rev. Innocent Solomon has expressed deep concerned on the incessant terrorism and other related vices in the North East.
He stated this in a devotional paper presented at the Christian Association of Nigeria [CAN] Jalingo Chapter consultative meeting with pastors. He said the negative trend have frustrated the effective spread of the gospel and the instrument for peaceful co-existence.
