Suspected Boko Haram gunmen on Thursday stormed Bajoga and Ashaka in Gombe State raiding banks and burning government buildings as well as political party offices, residents told AFP.
Scores of gunmen dressed in military uniform arrived in Bajoga, 60 kilometres (37 miles) from Gombe city in a convoy of 20 vehicles at about 7 am (0600 GMT).
Troops managed to push out the attackers and they then drove towards the town of Ashaka five kilometres away near the border with Yobe state to the northeast.



PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday described as “unfortunate and most unpatriotic” statements credited to former Head of State, Major- General MuhammaduBuhari, that the federal government has failed in tackling the problem of insurgency and that he will end the scourge if he is elected President.



Tragedy struck at Aikhionbare axis of GRA on Wednesday afternoon, when gunmen killed a nephew of Edo South PDP Senatorial aspirant West Idahosa and his orderly, a police sergeant.

It was a pathetic sight at the residence of West Idahosa who was a three time member of the house of Representatives, as sympathizers wailed openly.



Contrary to the belief in some quarters that the shifting of the resumption date for members of the House of Representatives from December 3rd to December 16th was due to the leadership tussle among lawmakers in the House, the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Leo Okuwe Ogor (PDP, Delta) has said that the decision was taken in the interest of all members.

Ogor in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja stated that the move is purely about the impending party primaries involving majority of the members and as such has nothing to do with any individual.



The suit filed by the Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal at the federal high court has been stalled and the matter may outlive his tenure as parties seeking to be joined have applied for a stay of proceeding.

This followed an appeal filed by Chairmen of Kebbe Local Government Area and Tambuwal Local Government Area Bala Konkani and Sambo Modo respectively, whose application to join as defendants was rejected by the federal high court.

The Managing Director of Custodian and Allied Insurance Company, Mr. Wole Oshin, Tuesday took a strong look at the activities of Nigeria’s insurance industry and harped on the importance of further consolidation on the industry.
He also challenged captains and other stakeholders sub-sector to brainstorm on how to entrench a strong and viable insurance industry in Nigeria.

Over 50 Boko Haram terrorists were on Monday night killed by the military when the terrorists attempted to invade Konduga town, the headquarters of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno state.
A military source who pleaded anonymity, told Daily Champion that the insurgents came at about 8:30pm on Monday to attack the town and the gun duel lasted for more than three hours.
Meanwhile, a 24-hour curfew has been imposed on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, following Monday’s attacks on the town by insurgents.

One person was shot and wounded in the primaries held yesterday by the Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) at Apena in the Ebute-Metta, Lagos Mainland Constituency I, where the battle to pick who becomes the party’s candidate in the state House of Assembly poll for 2015 has pitched an incumbent, Bashiru Oloto against Oladele Adekanye.
Adekanye, who is the immediate past chairman of Mainland Local Government Area defeated the incumbent member, Oloto.
