Borno PDP divided over Sheriff’s Court vrdict

The Federal Court of Appeal Port Harcourt declaring Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the authentic National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has created division in the PDP in Borno State.The Sheriff faction state Chairman of the Party, Hon. Shettima Shehu, has said they were happy the High Court judgment in Port Harcourt that declared Sheriff as the authentic National Chairman of the Party.
Addressing newsmen at the Forsham Hall Maiduguri, Shehu called on the other members of the party including the Makarfi faction of the party to join hands and work together with Sheriff as one big family to build the party.

“The emergence of Senator Ali Sheriff as the National Chairman of the party as affirmed by the Court of Appeal is worthy, timely, as recent development in the party has led to several court cases but we are happy the crisis is over.”, Shehu stated.

He said the party belonged to everybody that is card-carrying member of the party whether young old male or female.

The victory of Senator Sheriff at the Appeal court will ensure the reconciliation of the party, he said, adding that in politics, anything can happen.

In a swift reaction, a group known as Borno Grassroots PDP Stakeholders, said  they are strongly behind the Makarfi faction, as they had a meeting with PDP stakeholders at the grassroots that they behind the Makarfi faction.

The Chairman of the Forum, Amb. Usman Ibrahim, at a press briefing in Maiduguri,  said “serving governors, senators, members of House of Representatives, the caretaker chairman of the party, former ministers and other leaders of the party held a meeting and reaffirmed the Chairmanship of Senator Ahmed  Makarfi.

He said: “After meeting with our members, the forum has decided that: “We the grassroots stakeholders of PDP in Borno unanimously agreed with the leadership of Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the caretaker chairman of our great Party”.

“We also concur with the decision taken by the Makarfi group and further decision that will be taken, so we called on our grassroots stakeholders who are unable to attend this briefing to stay calm and be law abiding as we are the pioneer members of this great party”.
