SELYA YARNAP, Bauchi
Bauchi State Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal has upheld and validated the election of Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir as the duly elected Governor of Bauchi State.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Salihu Shuaibu, while delivering the judgment on Monday held that Mohammed Abdulkadir who contested the last gubernatorial election on the PDP having scored the highest number of votes as declared by INEC was validly elected.
He, therefore, dismissed the petition brought before it by the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, who challenged the result of the gubernatorial election, alleging electoral malpractice particularly over voting in three LGAs of Bauchi, Bogoro and Tafawa-Balewa.
To prove their petition, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and the APC called 33 witnesses who testified at the Tribunal but the Tribunal dismissed all the evidences in reaching its judgment.
There is wild jubilation by supporters of the Governor and the PDP supporters who have taken over major streets within the Bauchi metropolis.
In his reaction, the Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir thanked God for the victory at the Tribunal and assured the people of Bauchi State of his administration’s commitment to take the state to greater heights.
