Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua Foundation (ASYARF) has identified increase in poverty;  poor quality goods and services;  conflicts/violence/insecurity and  economic downturn as some of the effects of corruption.Others, according to ASYARF, include:  collapse of infrastructures; heath-related problems; dislocation of social fabrics and general disillusionment among the people.

The National Co-ordinator of the Foundation, Dr. Aisha Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of the President/Founder, Hajia (Dr,) Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua, stated these during the celebration of this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day.

The Foundation also commended President Muhammadu Buhari administration for its ongoing war against corruption in the country.

The theme of this year’s Day is: “United Against Corruption For Development, Peace & Security”.

ASYARF celebrated the 2016 International Anti-Corruption Day with rallies and campaigns in local communities to inform, educate and enlighten them about corruption, the various ways it affects them, as well as the roles they are expected to play in curbing it.

According to the organization, it was due to the effect of corruption that it joined the United Nations and the rest of the world to unite against corruption in order to bring about development, peace and security.

Speaking on the occasion, ASYARF’s National Co-ordinator said: “The International Anti-Corruption Day is the day set aside to create awareness, enlighten and educate people around the world on the endemic virus – Corruption- and its attendant negative effects”.

“The word “Corruption” has several connotations. Corruption is the dishonest or fraudulent conduct usually involving bribery, illegitimate use of power or position in a way to give undue privilege, or to benefit a private interest, or to placate an ulterior motive.

“Corruption implies the giving of any form of inducements either to suppress the truth, or to circumvent the due process. It could also mean the unauthorized diversion of resources to uses other than the ones they were originally meant for.

“ASYARF also lends itssupport tothe Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) in its current efforts to fightthis cancerous vice in Nigeriaand return the country to the path of greatness, progress, growth and sustainabledevelopment”.
