Abia PDP expresses readiness for council polls


The Chairman of Abia State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Johnson Onuigbo, has declared the party’s readiness for the forthcoming local government elections which Abia State Independent Election Commission  ( ABSIEC ) has scheduled to hold on December 17, 2016 in about 292 wards.
He disclosed this, while releasing the PDP primaries’ time table for the chairmanship and councillorship elections to pressmen at the party’s secretariat, Umuahia.
Onuigbo said the collections and returns of forms would start from September 26 to October 10, 2016, adding that the PDP councillorship primaries would hold on October 14 while that of chairmanship would be on October 18, 2016.
On the issue of the payment of forms, the chairman said, the party considered the present economic situation in the country in fixing the fees, saying five hundred thousand naira for the position of chairmanship and one hundred thousand naira for the position of councillorship.
He said the party will provide a level playground for all candidates and will use option A4 to conduct the primaries. “ No substitution of names after the elections are won ,we are going to show other parties an example ,we are returning power to the grassroots ,the people will decide who will lead them. “
Onuigbo said ,ABSIEC had interactive session with all the parties that would be involved in the local government election in the state and  ABSIEC made it known that they are going to provide a level play ground for all the parties.
“So, it is going to be a competitive elections, for us as a party, we are not losing any sleep about other political parties. We are expecting a competitive election that is the joy of democracy; we have started mobilizing people, grassroots sensitizations and campaigns.
“We have started working very hard to win positions and if other parties work very hard, they will win positions” he said.
