MICHAEL OLANREWAJU, Ilorin
Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ; and former Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, are among personalities expected at the 19th posthumous lecture of the first Asiwaju of Offa, Late Chief Josiah Sunday Olawoyin.
The memorial lecture, at the instance of The Zealous Kwara Youths, will hold at Offa Descendants Union (ODU) Hall in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference to herald the event in Ilorin yesterday, the President of The Zealous Kwara Youths, Mr John Adegboye, said while Tinubu had been invited as a Special Guest, Governor AbdulRazaq would serve as chairman of the occasion.
Also expected to deliver papers at the lecture are Balarabe Musa, a former governorship aspirant in Kwara State, Engr Sunday Babalola and a Federal Commissioner with Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Chief Olatokunbo Adekunle Ajasin.
At a press conference attended by two sons of late Olawoyin, Segun Olawoyin and Obafemi Olawoyin and the immediate past Leader of the eight legislature of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hassan Oyeleke, The Zealous Kwara Youths President said the group decided to honour Olawoyin, who at various times held positions with which he influenced development policies the people of the state are enjoying today.
Adegboye, who recalled the invaluable contribution of the late Asiwaju of Offa, disclosed that he moved motion for the creation of Kwara State, which was seconded by Alhaji Abdulganiyu Folorunsho AbdulRazaq, father of the incumbent Governor of the state.
He added that the group resolved to celebrate the late political icon because he represented the finest qualities of not only an Offa man but what progressive politics should be nationally.
Adegboye urged the state government to immortalise him, saying that his selflessness and the qualities he exemplified during his lifetime should not go unrewarded.
“Late Chief J.S Olawoyin represents the finest qualities of not only an Offa man; he represents the impression of Ibolo land, Kwara State and what Progressive Politics Nationally should be.
“We are committed towards gaining inspiration from his life and times during the course of the lecture. It is a very sad and yet an unavoidable reality that the few of our elders that are still with us on the planet earth have advanced in age as some of them had passed unto glory”, he said.
The Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II is expected to lead other royal fathers at the memorial lecture.
