72.8 million Nigerians to vote on Saturday as INEC releases PVCs data

… Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina top collection, Ekiti, Bayelsa, FCT, Yobe record least collection

At least 72.8 million Nigerians who have collected their Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs are eligible to vote in this Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

According to the data on the collection of PVCs released Thursday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC out of 84 million registered voters, 72.8 million representing 86.3% have collected their PVCs while 11.2 million representing 13.7% have not collected their PVCs at close of the exercise on February 11.

Mahmood Yakubu, INEC Chairman who announced this at the briefing of journalists and election observers in Abuja said, the uncollected PVCs have been moved to State branches of the Central Bank of Nigeria for safekeeping.

The breakdown of the collection showed that Lagos tops the number of collected PVCs with 5.5 million, Kano comes second with 4. 7 million, Kaduna follow with 3.6 million, Katsina follows closely with 3.2 million while Rivers comes next with 2.8 million.

The collection indicated that Delta recorded 2.5 million collected PVCs, Bauchi has 2.3 million collected PVCs, Benue has 2.2 million, Oyo has 2.2 million, Niger also has 2.2 million, Plateau has 2.1 million, Anambra collected 2.1 million PVCs, Borno collected 2 million, Akwa Ibom has 1.9 million and is followed by Adamawa and Enugu with 1.8 million each while Abia, Sokoto, Taraba, Edo, Imo, Kebbi, and Ogun collected 1.7 million PVCs each.

Furthermore, Zamfara and Jigawa collected 1.6 million PVCs each, Ondo collected 1.5 million Nasarawa, Cross River, Yobe and Kogi collected 1.4 million PVCs, Osun collected 1.3 million, FCT followed with 1 million, Bayelsa comes next with 769, 509 while Ekiti has the least collection figure of 666, 591.

Yakubu while speaking on the preparedness of INEC for the Saturday’s polls said “yesterday, I reported that a number of States had commenced deployment to the Local Government Areas (LGAs). I also assured the nation that going by our revised timetable and schedule of activities, these deployments will be concluded today. We are fully on course.

“There is no State that has not commenced the deployment to LGAs. In fact, 19 States have fully deployed. By the end of the day, all States and FCT would have deployed except Bayelsa State which is moving direct from our State Office in Yenagoa to the RACs tomorrow.

“Tomorrow, activities at Ward level will commence with the activation of the Registration Area Centres (RACs) at 9.00am while the movement of personnel and materials will commence at mid-day. This is the last staging post before deployment to 119,973 polling units leading to the opening of polls at 8.00am on Saturday”.
