2019: Groups threaten to dump Atiku

A coalition of 27 groups under the auspices of Atiku United of Nigeria (AUN) has threatened to dump the former Vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over alleged non-recognition of the group in the harmonised Atiku Support Group structures.

The National President of AUN, Comrade Umar Isma’il, gave the threat while addressing journalists shortly after an emergency meeting of its National Working Committee (NWC) in Lagos at the weekend.

Specifically, the group said it was not happy “over the nonchalant attitude of Hassan Waziri Chinede ( Special Assistant to Alhaji Atiku on Youth Mobilisation) and others towards not giving the group (AUN) recognition status in the harmonised Atiku Support Group structures after we have tirelessly worked to promote awareness for Atiku Abubakar’s political ambition at grassroots and all the nooks and crannies of the country with our personal resources”.

Also in a statement jointly signed by AUN’s National President Isma’il and Secretary-General Amb. Oluwakemi Abiodun, the group said it would not hesitate to withdraw its support in the area of mobilisation for Atiku Abubakar’s 2019 presidential ambition “if it is confirmed that we are no longer relevant in the scheme of things”.

“If the issue(s) raised is/are not addressed within two weeks, we will have no other option but to issue a statement to our structures nationwide and our membership base of 3.2 million on our next line of action”, AUN further threatened Atiku.
