At least 12 people escaped death as 3-storey building collapses in Lagos, many trapped when a three-storey building under construction collapsed on Thursday at Ilasamaja area of Lagos, with people trapped in the debris.

It was learnt that the building caved in around 2:30pm as rescue agencies had moved to site and were working frantically to rescue trapped victims.

Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe told newsmen that the three-storey building under construction collapsed at Richard Abimbola Street, Ilasamaja, Lagos.

He said some people were still trapped in the debris and that rescue was ongoing.

Our correspondent observed that three of those who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital nearby while the remaining nine were being treated by a medical team from Lagos State Emergency Service outside the collapsed building.

It could not be immediately ascertained the number of victims who were trapped in the rubble as at press time.

About two weeks ago, a two-storey under construction in Lekki area of Lagos collapsed, killing two people.

The state government then sealed off the building till the contractor provides evidence of building approval.
